HOW TO PERFOM BETTER UNDER PRESSURE

Image
“A man who stands for everything, stands for nothing” That is a phrase used to describe a man who, with alluring pressures can be swayed into every and anything. Human beings have a tipping point. A point that if reached and crossed, could cause us to be pushed into things we did not plan for. A point comes where you hear people say things like “I can’t take this anymore” “I am stressed out” “I can’t continue like this” “I quit” etc. They feel an internal or external pressure so much that they either need a quick distraction or a temporal means of relief. In this particular piece, we will be discussing; How to handle situations like this, How to perform better under pressure, And a little story why “pressure” is a no small matter.   Before talking about how to handle pressure, what is pressure? Pressure can be seen as any physical or emotional force directed at something to make it change course or direction. See it this way - you have a map to a one million, and the ...

Sun, Oct 18, 2020 8:04 AM                I was on my way to meet my pregnant wife on a rainy August, when they stopped me on the way. They were in a pick-up truck. Looking confused and surprised, I inquired what happened, what I  did wrong, and they told me to shut up or anything I said will be used against me in the court of law. I tried to explain to them I was on my way to see my pregnant wife, when one of them leaped out of the truck and slapped me hard across the face. I immediately shut up. This was happening out in the open and nobody could do anything about it. They only stood aside and watched from a safe distance. I was asked by one of the officers inside the truck what was in bag, I told him it was my laptop and some baby clothes. He asked me to open the bag. I looked at him, I was nonplussed. Didn't he hear me? Maybe they think I am a yahoo boy, because of the laptop. I guess that was why I was stopped. Because they saw me wi...

Sun, Oct 18, 2020 7:26 AM                   I will never forget what happened during my university days in school. The police brutality I and my friends experienced, and how we were unable to do zilch about it. Even now, the thought about it haunts me badly. The emotional scar it left is still a subtle reminder in my heart. I can't see a man in Police uniform without feeling attacked, without feeling safe, or without feeling the reassurance of my life. That's how bad things have gotten with me. The traumatic pressure and experience. The post traumatic stress of the agony I experienced first-hand.             I and my friends were home that frigid afternoon having fun. We skipped lectures that day, because our schedules were free. Plus, we ordered pizza and drinks, chilling and gisting. Oblivious to us, SARS operatives were in our lounge, looking for apartments with opened doors. In o...

I woke up with a throbbing headache on the 12th of October 2020. It was 4am in the morning, the crescent moon was still visible under the fluffy clouds. A shy glowing orb, a twilight shade. I had this premonitory feeling it was about to rain soon, but I wasn’t sure. Something stirred me up, I was uncertain about what woke me, but I knew something did. I reached for my phone, knocking down few contents on the bed counter, before getting it. I dabbed softly on the screen twice, and the screen’s luminous surfaced glowed duly on my face. I had two missed call from my friend, Ebuka. The phone call must have been what had woken me up. Isn’t it a bit early for this? What could Ebuka possibly want, I thought inwardly to myself. Somewhere across the street, I heard shouts and screams, bottles rolling off the pavement, metals clanking against metal. I sat up lazily in bed, the frame squeaking in protest under my weight. I rubbed my eyes ...

INNOVATION

Image
After concluding that innovation is an advisable pathway to prosperity and how both an individual and a nation can drive themselves towards a life far above average with innovation, let us talk a little about the innovation and how to go about it. Learning how to fish has been proven to be better than learning how to eat fish. What Is Innovation? Fig 1.1        One thing about innovation is that it not confined to the rich or geniuses alone. Any man can be innovative irrespective of his or her background, race or sociological upbringing. A well cultured mind will most likely tend towards innovation. In our previous post  "What Is Poverty?"  we made a stance on innovation being one of the most potent route out of poverty and its related discusses. What I want us to consider in this piece is how to go about innovation. Innovation could have a broad meaning, depending on who you ask and in what context you ask them, the meaning ...

WHAT IS POVERTY?

Image
Yes, What Is Poverty? Fig 1.1                Sounds a bit odd isn’t, asking an ‘easy question’ Of course poverty can easily be described depending on who you ask and in what condition you ask them. A common response might be that poverty is the absence of sufficient money, or inability to provide basic human needs, or in a national level-when the average citizen barely survives through the day. These answers might stand and instead of featuring the many responses we can get from asking people, what exactly is poverty? What has the world collectively been doing to combat poverty? Whose responsibility is it to eradicate poverty? Was any nation born rich? These are just a few questions circling around the term poverty and some people have tried to measure poverty with the hope that if the right measurement is gotten, that a formula can be sprouted around it to attempt curbing poverty. The outcome of those measurements hasn’t really been doing mu...
