We do not know who Will Rogers is but the goal should not be to make money and certainly not to live on our own terms because that will create a disorderly society. We cannot have every single person in the world living by their own terms and condition; that is a recipe for a society that is ordered in chaos. What creates unity is not diversification of terms and conditions but having a common goal. if everybody can come to terms with one another, the society will be a lot better. The society is where it is today because everybody is encouraged to make their own rules and live by it. Your parents are not understanding you? dishonor them; who cares. Your relatives or friends are saying your character is not good? Disregard them; after all, this is who you are, you cannot change for anybody. Right? We push everyone away including those that mean no harm and surround ourselves with people that massage our ideologies. Who cares? "This is who we are, we cannot change for anybody." This becomes more dangerous when the individual have access to a degree of money because there will be an infinite number of things he or she can do because money is available. The goal is to represent something bigger than us so as to ensure our humility as humans.

Human beings are naturally arrogant and will not want anyone telling them what to do, that is why the above quote will resonate with many because nothing sounds better than living on our own terms. I mean, who wants to live receiving orders from others? "We are our boss, we don't do that around here." However, that mindset can be bad. Bad for us, bad for the upcoming generation and certainly bad for the society. An excellent society should not be one where everyone is the king, making their own rules and going as far as manipulating others to come to terms with their rules. This is why phrases like this exist; "This is how I like my things." "This is how i want it to be done." Exonerating ourselves above everyone else and disregarding them alongside their opinions as well, just because we are trying to live on our own terms. Know this, a society that gives its citizens the tools to remain divided will not stand nor prosper, but the society that empowers its citizens with necessary knowledge and have placed a common goal before the people will stand and prosper.

Imagine an army with a general letting its foot soldiers choose their positions in battle, who will like to be at the battle front? Imagine a football coach letting the players choose their positions on the pitch; that would be chaotic! But when the coach is able to present a goal bigger than the individual players themselves, suddenly, no one is concerned about their positions again, everyone just wants to help each other as a team and win the game. Taking the competition away from the people and binding us with a common goal bigger than our individual selves is what is needed, not living life on our own terms.

  1. Wonderful piece... "A common goal , a big one" what if mine is being successful narrowed down to my ability to help, buy for and give, and this boils down to money. what is the conviction it shouldn't be totally about the money.

    1. The people should be the conviction. No pursuit for success (money) should be at the expense of "The people." Because some people's wealth are tied to the oppression and marginalization of a large number of people, it shouldn't be so. True wealth should have some benefits to the society.
